The 3rd Lair skate camp has been a staple in MN skateboarding for over 25 years. We’re the pioneers, with the most experience, top-notch instructors, and a track record of success.
The 3rd Lair was founded in February 1997 with a mission to boost skateboarding in the Twin Cities. Over the years, we’ve made it easier for more people to get into the sport. We’re based in a huge 20,000-square-foot facility in Golden Valley, Minnesota, and we’re famous nationwide for our Action Sports development programs.
Skate Camp is non-refundable.
In the event of an emergency, we are happy to switch your registration to a different week (when space allows) or issue a camp credit for future use.
Sale runs through March 31, 2025.
If you select undecided, we will reach out on May 1st about applying your credit to a specific week. After that selection process, skate camps are subject to filling up and credits may not be able to be applied to specific weeks.
**Only select the member rate if you’re a current 3rd Lair member.** If unsure, call us at 763 797 6283. Interested in becoming a member? Click here.
SKATE CAMP RUNS 9AM - NOON DAILY
SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION BASED ON EXPERIENCE.
RECOMMENDED FOR AGES 8 & UP, ALL EXPERIENCE LEVELS WELCOME.
Ages 8 & up is a loose reccomendation. Every summer we work with many kids under age 8 that do very well in camp. If you believe your kid can actively and positively participate in a small group instructional setting for 3 hours at a time, we encourage you to sign them up. If you are unsure we recommend trying a 1 on 1 lesson before committing to camp. 1 on 1 lessons can be booked here.
- Level 1 - Brand New: Literally no skateboarding experience
- Level 2 - Beginner: Minimal skateboarding experience at home our at public skateparks but not yet comfortable enough to navigate open skate at 3rd Lair
- Level 3 - Intermediate: 100% in control and comfortable riding your skateboard in a skatepark setting. Knowing how to drop in is helpful but not required
- Level 4 - Advanced: For riders who are fully comfortable riding in a skatepark setting, can drop in on most ramps, and have the basics perfected.
Our instructors
Before they can teach 3rd Lair’s instructional programs, each instructor has to complete at least 10 hours of training. The training covers our proven teaching methods, strategies to connect with youth, concussion and injury training, and many other lessons we’ve learned over our 25+ years of teaching skateboarding. Since we’ve been providing skateboard instruction for many years, some of our instructors attended camp as students when they were younger. This experience gives our team a unique perspective that you won’t find with other organizations.
OTHER NOTES
- Please make sure you bring a real, functioning skateboard to skate camp.
- It is important that the board rolls smoothly and turns properly.
- If you purchased your board at a skate shop or other store that specializes in action sports, you should be good.
- Skateboards purchased at big box discount stores, sporting goods stores, and often Amazon tend to not work so great. In our experience, kids who try to learn on these types of boards struggle to keep up due to the low quality of their equipment. More often than not, they internalize this as their own lack of talent/ability which hurts their confidence and ultimately their overall experience with skateboarding.
- Helmets are required for all riders, full pads are highly recommended.
- This includes knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards.
- In our experience, kids who wear full pads progress at a much faster rate, have a much lower rate of injury, and because of those things, have a more enjoyable experience with skateboarding.
- Just remember - skateboarding is very physical and falling down often is unavoidable so it is always best to be protected.
- Make sure you bring a refillable water bottle every day.
- It gets very warm here and we will be working hard so staying hydrated is key.
- Please administer any necessary medication prior to arriving at the park
- Please wear pants or tall socks.
- Closed toe athletic shoes are required.
- Please take a few minutes to complete a waiver for your child. Even if you think/know you have one on file, we ask that you complete a new one anyways. This will help make the check-in process go much smoother which means we can get to the fun stuff (riding) quicker.
