ABOUT

2017 marks the 14th Annual King of the Groms/Ams Championships. This event started in 2003 as a way for us to highlight youth skateboarding in the midwest. Over the years the event has evolved and grown as we have hosted stops throughout the U.S. and Canada. Thousands of young riders have participated and many have gone on to make significant contributions to skateboarding. Throughout it all our vision and goals have remained the same; to provide a fun environment where we can all come together to support the next generation of rippers.

For 2017 we have brought this event full circle and back to its roots. This means we will be hosting only 1 event weekend back where it all started – 3rd Lair SkatePark in Golden Valley, MN. We are looking forward to another amazing experience and can not wait to see all of our old friends while welcoming in the new. The 2017 King of the Groms/Ams Championships will be happening August 4 - 6, 2017.

2017 King of the Groms/Ams Championships Formats

Street

  • Qualifiers – Riders will be put into heats of 2-4 riders. Each heat will run as a 3-minute jam where each rider will be scored individually.
    • If there are 6 or less riders registered, all riders will Skate in Finals
    • If there are 7 – 10 riders registered, top 5 will Go to Finals
    • If there are 11 – 15 Riders Registered, top 7 will go to finals
    • If there are 16+ riders registered, top 10 will go to finals
  • Finals – Each rider will receive two, 1-minute runs.
    • The better of the 2 runs will count as the riders final score
    • In the case of a tie, Low scored finals runs will be used as the tiebreaker.

 

Bowl/Mini Ramp

  • Qualifiers – Riders will be put into heats of 3 - 5 riders. Each heat will run as a 5-minute, ordered jam where each rider will be scored individually.
    • If there are 6 or less riders registered, all riders will Skate in Finals
    • If there are 7 – 10 riders registered, top 5 will Go to Finals
    • If there are 11 – 15 Riders Registered, top 7 will go to finals
    • If there are 16+ riders registered, top 10 will go to finals
  • Finals – Each rider will receive two, 1-minute runs.
    • The better of the 2 runs will count as the riders final score
    • In the case of a tie, Low scored finals runs will be used as the tiebreaker.
